Paying your council tax
Direct Debit
Benefits of paying by Direct Debit:
- Choice of payment dates - 1st, 15th or 25th of the
month.
- You can pay in either 10 or 12 monthly instalments.
Spreading your instalments over 12 months reduces the monthly
amount you need to pay. All other payment
methods require the bill to be paid in 10 instalments on
the 1st of each month*.
- You can also pay your bill in two half-yearly amounts or
one annual amount by arrangement. Please notify the council
tax section of your chosen option.
* Failure to pay on the first of the month will result in
reminders being issued and may lead to your right to pay by
instalments being withdrawn leaving you liable for the whole of the
year's charge in one lump sum.
You can set up a Direct Debit instruction
over the telephone. It only takes a few minutes and a letter
confirming the instruction received will be posted to you the next
day so you have an opportunity to check your details are correct
before the first payment is taken.
Simply call the Council’s helpline on 01992
785577 to set up a Direct Debit today.

online through this website. If you have an account with a UK
bank or building Society, and you have a Visa/Visa Electron, Solo
or Maestro Debit card or a UK Credit card you can make a

Simple
instructions
You will need a valid debit or credit card for this
service.
Our online payment system
uses a 'pop up' window as part of the functionality, so if you have
a 'pop up blocker' installed on your PC you will need to
temporarily switch this off to make a payment. This can be
achieved simply by holding down the CTRL key on your keyboard
whilst clicking the link.
Automated telephone service
You can call the automated telephone line on 0845 6017620 to
reach an automated response system which enables credit and debit
card payments to be made using a keypad telephone.
When residents or customers telephone the
automated telephone line number, they will be asked to enter their
account number, the amount to be paid and their credit/debit card
details. Calls can be made from a landline at the local rate and
from mobile phones at the mobile service providers usual rates. The
service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Please have your details ready when you call
and a pen and paper to take a note of your receipt number.
