Economic Development Strategy
Economic Development Strategy
-
(referred to in planning documents as BEDS)
Broxbourne Council has produced an Economic
Development Strategy to cover the period 2010-2013 following a
public consultation exercise in autumn 2009.
The strategy sets out public agencies’ support
for the development of the local economy. It is published in
two parts. The first section describes the suggested
objectives for the local economy, the actions to be taken to
achieve them and targets against which success will be
measured. Progress against the previous strategy is also
reviewed. Information on recent developments in the local
economy and the socio-economic profile of the Borough are contained
in a set of appendices with a glossary and bibliography.
This strategy links to the Sustainable
Community Strategy for Broxbourne, which is currently being
consulted on in draft form, and provides one of the overarching
frameworks under which this strategy fits.

Since the Council’s last Economic Development
Strategy was published in 2006, two key employment sites of
regional importance have been developed at Park Plaza at junction
25 of the M25 in Waltham Cross (see map on the left) and Essex Road
in north east Hoddesdon (see map on the right). These sites
have provided a total of over 1,000 jobs between them.
However, the strategy reveals the need to widen the local economic
base and strengthen the skill levels of the local population.
It contains an action plan with aims and objectives for local
economic development and the agencies and means through which they
are to be achieved.

The document can be downloaded from the related links
section on the right of the page and it is also available from
Council one stop shops. For more information, please

The half-yearly action plans will also appear in the related
links section.
Update of the Economic Development Strategy
An Economic Development Strategy for the period 2013 - 2016 is
in production and a public consultation on the document will take
place later in 2013.
