Economic Development Strategy
Economic Development Strategy 2006-09

The goal for the Council's work on economic development in
Broxbourne is to improve the prosperity of the community, to
maximise employment opportunities enjoyed by local people, without
damaging the quality of local life.
The Council has developed an economic development strategy
for 2006/09 which is subject to a rolling review. This
follows a consultation period where businesses, residents and
Council partners had the opportunity to comment on the draft.
The strategy sets out the Council's support for the
development of the local economy. It links to the Community
Plan for Broxbourne and provides the overarching framework under
which this strategy fits.
The strategy focuses on four key areas:
- Improving the range and quality of local jobs
opportunities
- Encouraging investment in this area and providing support for
local business
- Raising the level of work related skills in the local
population and the
- provision of opportunity for learning skills
- Improving the quality of life and environment for those who
live and work in the Borough.
Since the Council's last Economic Development Strategy was
published in 2003, two key sites have been brought forward for
development. The Park Plaza development and development on
the Essex Road site are likely to have a major long-term impact on
the local economy. The strategy also covers the impact of the
Olympics as well as the linkages with the draft Hertfordshire
Economic Development Strategy and the countywide Local Area
Agreement.
The strategy reveals the need to widen the local economic base
and strengthen the skill levels of the local population. It
contains an action plan with aims and objectives for local economic
development and the agencies and means through which they are to be
achieved.
The document can be downloaded from the related links
section on the right of the page and it is also available from
