three key objectives, which the Council will bear in mind when
exercising its functions under the Act, which are:

gambling from being a source of crime and disorder,
being
associated with crime and disorder
or being used to support crime;
· Ensuring that
gambling is conducted in a fair and open way;
· protecting
children and other vulnerable persons from being harmed or
exploited by
gambling.
A new regulator, the
Gambling
Commission, has been formed as part of the Act; it will also
issue licences to operators and individuals. The Act regulates the
online gaming/gambling industry which previously was largely
unregulated.
There are several
‘responsible authorities’ under the
Gambling Act 2005 who must be notified and consulted with when an
application is submitted. In addition the Council has consulted on
and published a statement of the
principles that it will apply when exercising its functions
under the Act.
