The Gambling Commission
The Commission regulates gambling in the public interest by
keeping crime out of gambling; ensuring that gambling is conducted
in a fair and open way; and by protecting children and vulnerable
people. The Commission provides independent advice to the
Government about the manner in which gambling is carried out, the
effects of gambling, and the regulation of gambling generally.
The Gambling Commission is responsible
for granting operating and personal licences for commercial
gambling and personnel working in the industry, publishing
guidance, and regulating all types of gambling (including online
gambling), except spread betting and the National Lottery. These
are regulated by the Financial Services Authority and the National
Lottery Commission respectively.
