Advice and support for parents

There are a number of free parenting courses available to parents of 0-5 year olds in Broxbourne.

 

Spring 2011

These are all free courses, open to all parents in the district. Booking is essential, please contact the District Partnership Team on 01992 556369.

 

Feeling Safe, Staying Strong

For: the parents and carers of children of any age

Summary:  a free 10 week course

  • Explore safe ways to manage anger and feelings
  • Improve relationships and communication
  • Build self-esteem

 

Date: Friday 21 January – 8 April (No class during half-term)

Time: 1pm – 3pm

Venue: Greenfield Children’s Centre, Hurst Drive, Waltham Cross, EN8 8DH

 

Enough of the Huff

For: The parents and carers of children aged 0-5

Summary: A free two hour workshop covering:

  • Improve your confidence as a parent
  • Promote positive behaviour
  • Boost self esteem
  • Enjoy being a parent

 

Date: Tuesday 25 January

Time: 1pm- 3pm

Venue: Three Parks Children’s Centre, Walton Road, Hoddesdon EN11 0LN

 

Time Out from ADHD

For: Parents and carers of six to 13 year olds

Summary: A free six week course

Opportunity to meet with other parents whose situation is similar to yours and talk through the challenges in your lives.

Dates: Monday 28 February, 7, 14, 21, 28 March and 4 April 2011

Time: 12.30pm – 2.30pm

Raising Kids in the 21st Century

For: The parents and carers of children aged five to 11 years old

Summary: A free six week course covering:

  • What children need
  • Developing self esteem and why it’s important
  • Developing a loving discipline style for your family
  • How to enjoy being a parent!

 

Date: Thursday 3 March – 7 April

Time: 1pm – 3m

Venue: Holdbrook Primary School, Alexandra Way, Longcroft Drive, Waltham Cross, EN8 7QG

 

Managing Anger in the Family

For: The parents and carers of children of any age

Summary: A free five week course covering:

  • Are you worried about losing your temper?
  • Does your child get angry?
  • Does conflict upset your family?
  • This course will help you to explore, understand and manage anger and conflict in either yourself or your family

Dates: Tuesday 8 March – 5 April

Time: 7pm – 9pm

Venue: MECCS Building, Andrews Lane Primary School, Andrews Lane, Cheshunt, EN7 6LB

 

Living with Self Harm

For: parents and carers of children of any age

Summary: a free two hour workshop covering:

  • Understanding what is self harm and why people self harm
  • To recognise and learn how to respond helpfully to self-harm behaviour
  • Managing feelings
  • Ways to support someone who self harms
  • An opportunity to discuss in a safe and supportive environment

Time: 7pm – 9pm

Managing Anger in the Family

For: Parents and carers of children of any age

Summary: A free five week course covering:

  • Are you worried about losing your temper?
  • Does your child get angry?

Living with Teens

For: Parents and carers of children aged 11 to 19 years old

Summary: A free five week course covering:

  • Why it’s tough being a teenager
  • Improve your parent/teenager relationship
  • Boosting confidence and self-esteem
  • Strategies to handle common teenage problems
  • What to say about sex and sexuality

 

Dates: Wednesday 9 March – 6 April

The Parenting Puzzle; How to get the best out of family life

For: Parents and carers of children aged 0-11

Summary: A free 10 week course

Have you ever wondered...

  • Why you have to nag to get your children to do as they are told?
  • Why the more you tell them off the more they argue?
  • If family life could be more fun?
  • How to help children grow up to be kind, confident, healthy and to make the best of their lives? ...then the Parenting Puzzle is for you!

Dates: Wednesday 9 March – 25 May (No class during Easter Holidays)

Time: 9.15am – 11.15am

Venue: High Trees Children’s Centre, Hertford Regional College, Broxbourne Centre, EN10 6AE

 


New Beginnings

 

Hertford Regional College, in partnership with local children’s centres, will be running free courses for 16-18* year old parents and mums and dads to be living in Hertfordshire. The programme is called 'New Beginnings' and provides a relaxed learning environment for young people to develop their parenting skills, continue their education and find out about other career options whilst meeting other young parents at the same time. This is a 12 week course, held one day each week.

 

The Broxbourne programme is due to start Thursday 3 March 2011 from 10:00-15:45, working in close partnership with High Trees and Allsorts children’s centres. The morning will be held at the Broxbourne Campus of Hertford Regional College, and the afternoon at St Mary’s C of E High School, Cheshunt.

This programme is funded through Hertfordshire Children’s Trust Partnership and is free for learners that meet the eligibility criteria.
