Community events

The Council organises several community events throughout the year.  

 

Be sure to come and visit the town centres for the special events and bring the family.  The events are free to visitors and exhibitors of vehicles.

Mother's Day Event - Saturday 13 March

 

A Mother's Day event will be held in Hoddesdon town centre at the Clock Tower between 1pm-4pm.  The event will include beauty and wellbeing taster sessions including nails, reflexology, nutrition advice and Indian head massage.  There will be various stalls including jewellery, bags, Virgin Vie, make-up and homewares.  Free children's workshops making cards and gifts will be held at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.  No need to book just collect your ticket when you arrive.  Refreshments available during the afternoon.

Hoddesdon Heritage Weekend - 23-25 April

 

To celebrate St George's Day and Shakespeare's birthday a weekend of events has been planned around local history and heritage.  The programme is being co-ordinated by Broxbourne Arts Forum (BArts) in partnership with Books @ Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire Archives and Local Studies (HALS), Hoddesdon Library and The Lowewood Museum.

  • Bored by the Bard - 12noon - Friday 23 April - Broxbourne Civic Hall.    An entertainment of music, poetry and famous works with refreshments.
  • A Guide to your Ancestor's Lives - 2pm - Sunday 25 April - Books @ Hoddesdon.  Dr Nick Barratt from BBC's "Who Do You Think You Are" series talks about his new book followed by "Ask the Expert" panel session.
  • Making Memories Project - Hoddesdon Library.  Introduction to the new community website which was launched in January.  Local residents are invited to share their memories of Broxbourne and surrounding area by contributing experiences, stories and photos.
  • Special Exhibition - Sunday 25 April - Lowewood Museum.  Friends of Lowewood Museum have organised a special exhibition highlighting the history of selected buildings and the people who lived in them.
  • Hoddesdon Newsreel - Repeat showings of wonderful black and white films shot by local resident, Tom Franklin from the late 1940s through to the early 1960s can be viewed at Books @ Hoddesdon.
  • George and the Dragon - Broxbourne Civic Hall. There is to be a childrens outdoor theatre production with accompanying treasure hunt and shield making workshop.

May Fair - Hoddesdon Town Centre - Saturday 1 May

 

May Fair 1The May Fair will be held on Saturday 1 May between 10am-2pm in Hoddesdon town centre.  The event will incorportate a number and variety of charity/craft stalls alongside entertainment throughout the day from local dance/theatre groups. Live music is also scheduled for the event in the High Street.
