Community Grant Scheme

Grants applications for 2009/10 will be available to download on

Monday 29 September 2008

Broxbourne Council offers an annual grant scheme to local organisations, charities and community groups. Awards are granted for one financial year only. The Council offers five types of award.

  • National non-domestic rate relief - discount on business rates
  • Facility hire subsidy for the hire of Council facilities, eg. Civic Hall/Grundy Park Leisure Centre
  • Notional rental – discount on rent for tenants of Council property
  • Cash grants – for one-off projects and running costs
  • Capital grants/loans – for improvements to buildings and equipment purchases

The grant scheme is not open to individuals or commercial businesses. It is solely for local organisations, charities and community groups. Larger regional and national charities/organisations can apply but applications must be for a specific project within the Borough of Broxbourne that will benefit local residents.

Application Process

The application process is cyclical and all grant awards are for one financial year.  There is no limit on the number of times that an organisation, charity or community group can apply but the expectation is that only one application will be made in any one year.

Application Forms

Application forms and guidance notes are available to download from the related links section on this page.  There are two application forms.

  • Form A is for facility subsidy, notional rental (discount on rent for occupation of Council premises), and NNDR relief (discount on business rates.

The Community Plan for Broxbourne

Grants are awarded to organisations where assistance will help the needs of the community and help contribute towards the priority objectives of the Community Plan for Broxbourne.  The current plan covers the years 2007 to 2009 and includes eight core themes:

  • Active and Healthy
  • Safe and Secure
  • Young People
  • Prosperity for All
  • Places to Live
  • On the Move
  • Cleaner and Greener
  • Stronger Neighbourhoods, Stronger Communities

Funding priority is given to those organisations where an award will have a significant contribution towards achieving the objectives of the Community Plan.

However, the Council recognises that some very worthwhile causes do not explicitly contribute to, or support, the Community Plan themes. Applications of this type will still be considered on their individual merits. Further details regarding the Community Plan can be found here.

Other sources of funding

The Council’s grant scheme is only one of numerous sources of funding available to charities and community organisations and the resources available to the Council to support the grants scheme are finite.  Information is also available about how to identify alternative sources of funding .

The Grants Panel

All grant awards are determined by elected members at the Grants Panel. The membership of the Panel is appointed annually by the Council.
