Community Plan
The Community Plan for Broxbourne 2006-09
The Local Government Act 2000 requires all
local authorities to produce Community Plans to promote or improve
the social economic and environmental wellbeing of an area. Plans
should look at all aspects of an area, not just services provided
by the Council and should set out priorities for developing the
Borough in the long term. Broxbourne produced its first
Community Plan in 2003.
A new Community Plan for Broxbourne covering
the period 2006-09 was approved by a meeting of full Council on 31
October 2006. This can be downloaded from the related links
box on the right of the page. The Plan, produced after a
review of community needs, is owned by the Broxbourne Local
Strategic Partnership (LSP). It forms the overarching strategic
plan for all public and voluntary sector bodies that provide
services in Broxbourne. It provides the framework within which LSP
members will focus their efforts until 2009.
The consultation process which underpins the plan included a
resident’s survey in ‘Broxbourne News’, discussions with LSP
members, presentations to local organisations and a consultation
leaflet posted to over 600 local organisations and
individuals.
The new plan consists of a long-term strategic
vision and eight themes:
- Active and Healthy
- Safe and Secure
- Young People
- Prosperity for All
- Places to live
- On the Move
- Cleaner and Greener
- Stronger Neighbourhoods
- Stronger Communities
Each theme includes an action plan which is
updated regularly with a comprehensive monitoring system. The
targets within the Local Area Agreement (LAA) will be integrated
within the action plans and quality of life indicators and selected
BVPIs will be used to measure progress for each theme. Within
each theme, priorities for action have been identified. These
priorities meet one or more of the following criteria:
- raised by a large number of residents or
stakeholder groups during consultation
- are issues where the area is less well served
in comparison to countywide or nationwide statistics
- are national priorities
- are an opportunity which can be seized at
this time
