About the workforce of Broxbourne Borough Council

Broxbourne Council employs approximately 672 staff.  Because of its proximity to London and the M25, the Council is able to draw its staff from a wider catchment than just the Borough.  However the Council monitors how the composition of its workforce compares to that of the Borough.   Information about the workforce is collected using the SNOWDROP system.  The following sections provide a snapshot of this data as at January 2012, and compares this to available data on residents of the Borough.  The sections reflect the nine protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010 where data exists.  The Council does not currently record data on the following protected characteristics of its staff, or of candidates for appointment, but plans to do so in the future where appropriate:

  •        Religion or belief of staff
  •        Sexual orientation
  •        Gender reassignment (transgender)
  • ·      Pregnancy or maternity, except if it occurs during employment

Age

The Council has a higher percentage of the workforce aged between 45 and 64 years old (50.74%) than the same age group within the Borough’s population (25.20%).  Younger employees (age 16-24) make up 9.82% of the Council’s staff compared to 10.90% of the population.  The age profile of Council staff is as follows:
