Community Audit

Audit of the local community 2011
A review of the Broxbourne Community Audit has been completed
and the draft document is available in the related links section of
this page.
The Audit supports the Broxbourne
Sustainable Community Strategy and includes information on the
local population, an economic profile of the area, levels of local
educational attainment, the relative levels of deprivation, health
and transport. It is intended to provide a ‘snapshot’ of the
economic, social and demographic issues facing the local community
at September 2011. New information in this year's update of
the Audit includes the latest unemployment figures, updated
education statistics and a chapter on transport.
The Audit helps the Council make policy
decisions. Understanding the socio-economic climate in the
Borough helps the Council and partners to allocate resources to
meet the social and economic needs of the community.
Since the last document was produced in 2009,
there have been improvements in male and female life
expectancy. With regards to education, the general pattern is
one of increased achievement year on year in the Borough.
While the Borough’s unemployment rate is identical to the rate two
years ago, the county, national, regional and London rates have all
fallen slightly over the same period. The levels of teenage
pregnancy are also high in comparison to county and regional
averages although they have fallen. The document shows that
the Borough’s overall position in Hertfordshire has improved
slightly between the Indices of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) 2007 and
IMD 2010 studies. The Borough currently has three Super
Output Areas in the bottom 10 in Hertfordshire compared to four in
2007; in Waltham Cross (West), Wormey/Turnford and Bury Green but
Waltham Cross (West) has now replaced Wormley and Turnford as the
most deprived part of the Borough.
The Borough Council would like to extend its
thanks to all agencies whose analyses of local social and economic
conditions have been incorporated in the Community Audit.
