Contact the Elderly
Contact the Elderly
has groups all over the UK, made up of volunteers (drivers and
hosts) and members. Each group meets one Sunday each month
for tea, cake and company. Volunteer hosts take it in turns to
welcome members and volunteer drivers into their homes for a few
hours. Volunteer drivers pick up members and make sure that
they get home safely too.
The groups visit a different home each month.
Relationships and friendships can develop as the groups are kept
small and everyone can get to know each other.
Contact the Elderly welcomes those who are well into their 70s
who are isolated, either because they cannot get out alone or have
no friends, relatives or visitors nearby. They also welcome
people who would benefit from companionship and conversation but
may not feel at ease in a club, or lack the confidence to use
community transport.
Groups are free of charge and meet one Sunday per month, between
3 pm and 5:30 pm.
