Council meetings
The Council has elected to have a committee structure (rather
than a cabinet structure) which is displayed in the diagram
below:

The various committees meet approximately every ten to eleven
weeks. Each of these periods is known as a cycle. There
are four cycles in a year and each committee meets once during the
cycle (with the exception of the Planning and Licensing Committee
which usually meets five weekly to determine planning applications
within an eight week statutory period).
Committees usually have 12-15 members who consider and take
decisions on specific areas of responsibility. The matters
dealt with by each committee are set out in their terms of
reference which are detailed in the Council's Constitution.
Part 1 of the Constitution gives a
fuller explanation as to how the council operates.
