Members code of conduct

Changes to the complaints procedure

Members are required by the code of conduct to register certain interests, gifts and hospitality so they are seen to be open. The register may be inspected at the Borough Offices during normal office hours by arrangement with the Head of Support Services. Officers are also required to register interests in any contracts and gifts and hospitality. The register can be inspected by arrangement with the Head of Personnel Services.

From 8 May 2008 the responsibility for considering complaints that a member

may have breached the Code of Conduct is moving to the standards

committees of local authorities.

What this means to you

After 8 May 2008 if you want to complain about the conduct of a member of

Broxbourne Borough Council you must submit your complaint to:

The Monitoring Officer

Broxbourne Borough Council

Borough Offices

Churchgate

Cheshunt EN8 9XJ

Or e-mail it to legal@broxbourne.gov.uk.

The Standards Committee can only deal with complaints that a member has

breached the Council’s code of conduct for members. You can view the

Council’s code of conduct for members.  It will not deal with

complaints about things that are not covered by the members’ Code of

Conduct. If you make a complaint to the Standards Committee it must be

about why you think a member has not followed the Code of Conduct.

You can use this standard form for complaints or you may write your

own.  The Standards Committee has approved criteria against which it will determine whether complaints should be investigated.  View these criteria.

If you want to find out more about the standards required of local authority

members please visit the Standards Board’s website for further information.
