The Mayor

 

Councillor RowlandThe Mayor is the first citizen of the Borough, having been elected by fellow councillors, and represents every section of the community.  The role of the Mayor is non-political and only members of the Royal Family or the Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire have higher precedence.  

 

The Mayor’s correct title is the Worshipful the Mayor of the Borough of Broxbourne and after formal introductions he should be addressed as Mr Mayor.

 

The Mayor

Councillor Rowland was born in south London and has lived in the Borough or surrounding area for around 34 years. He has been married for 34 years with two grown up children. He runs a family tailoring and outfitters business.

 

Councillor Rowland was first elected in 1986 and served the Flamstead End ward until 1990 when he did not seek re-election. He was re-elected in 2007 serving the Hoddesdon North ward. He previously served as Mayor in 1989/90.

 

He has been chairman of the Broxbourne Scouts Association for the past 14 years and is president of Amwell Road Rotary Club. Councillor Rowland is a Freeman of the City of London Merchant Taylors and has been associated with the Cheshunt and Waltham Abbey Round Table.

 

He supports the youth of the Borough and regularly takes part in the adopt-a-street litter picking scheme in Woodstock Road and Park Lane.

 

The Deputy Mayor

 

The Deputy Mayor for this year will be Councillor Mrs Bren Perryman.  Councillor Mrs Perryman has been on the Council since 2004 and represents the Rye Park Ward.

 

Mayoral Invitations

 

If you would like the Mayor to attend your function please write in to the Mayor’s Secretary or email amb.memberservices@broxbourne.gov.uk   The work and personal diaries of the Mayor will be checked and, if the Mayor is able to attend your function, a letter of acceptance and an engagement form will be sent to you which needs to be completed and returned.  If the Mayor is unable to attend, the Deputy Mayor will be asked to go as the Mayor’s representative.
