Collection statistics

The percentage of council tax collected, in year, has increased gradually over the four year period shown above.  A challenging target has been set for the current year to improve collection again despite the fragile economic climate.  The figures above show the percentage of council tax collected within the year of liability; collection continues beyond this period and the Council endeavour to collect all amounts billed.

The percentage of business rates collected declined in 2008/09 at the beginning of the recession but has improved each year since with a significant improvement being achieved in 2010/11.  This brings the percentage collected, in year, above the 2007/08 levels. Again the target set for the current year is for further improvement and is considered challenging.
