Libraries

Libraries give you the opportunity to learn at your own pace using their computers which can be booked in advance or used on a drop-in basis. Hoddesdon Library, High Street, has 26 public computers, Cheshunt Library, Turners Hill, has nine, Waltham Cross Library, High Street, has three and Goffs Oak Library, Goffs Lane has two.

Lifelong Learning in Libraries

Libraries have facilities to help learners of all ages. Most libraries offer: -

• Information
• Details of full and part time learning both locally and nationally
• Careers information collections
• Addresses of organisations, professional bodies, clubs and societies
• Newspapers and periodicals
• To borrow, (books to support you with your studying or get you started on a new hobby, books on how to apply for jobs, improve your interview skills or start your own business)
• Language course
• A request service which allows you to borrow more specialised titles from other libraries
• Computers and study facilities
• Free Internet access
• Online tutorials to help improve your IT skills
• Access to word processing and spreadsheets
• Study space
• Photocopier and fax services

During events such as Adult Learners Week in May and Family Learning Weekend in October, many libraries offer basic one to one taster sessions on using computers for members of the public. These are informal sessions where a member of library staff will provide a basic one hour course and be available to offer help and support.
