Licence - pet shop

The Pet Animals Act 1951
This act regulate pet shops. In addition The Animal Welfare Act
2006 is updating previous legislation.
Any person, who keeps a pet shop, must obtain a licence. A
licence is granted annually and always expires at the end of each
year.
A pet shop is 'the carrying on at premises of any nature
(including a private dwelling) of a business of selling animals as
pets'
You do not need a pet shop licence if:
- you sell the offspring of an animal you keep as a pet
- you keep only pedigree animals which you breed
- you breed pedigree animals or acquire them for
show
All applications for the above licences need to be
made in writing by completing the application form and
returning the completed form along with the relevant fee to:
Environmental Health, Borough of Broxbourne,
Bishops College, Churchgate, Cheshunt, EN8 9XE.

debit card, by ringing 01992 785511. Please see list of
current fees and note that all application fees are
not refundable.
The conditions for the above
establishment is required to meet in order to obtain a licence.
