Building control service

A building control surveyor inspecting a timber roofIf you are intending to carry out building works you must submit an application to the Council's Building Control section. You will need to make the application under the provisions of the Building Regulations if you intend to carry out building work such as putting up a new building, extending or altering an existing building, replacing windows or putting an existing building to a different use.

There are, however, certain exemptions in respect of minor works, about which the Council will be pleased to advise you.

Work on site must not start until at least two days after your application has been accepted. Applications expire after three years if work has not started.

The Building Control team also deal with dangerous structures, demolition of buildings and contraventions of the Building Regulations.
