Planning
The planning system aims to maintain and improve the
environment and appearance of the Borough by balancing the
protection of the environment and amenities of the area against the
social and economic benefits that new development may bring. It
controls development through decisions on planning
applications which take account of the policy framework and
Government guidance and the individual merits of each scheme.
Public input into both the format of the plan and the determination
of each planning application is central to the process.
The section also deals with planning policy, conservation,
planning enforcement and handling of
planning appeals.
