Local Development Framework

The Local Development Framework (LDF) was the old name for the portfolio of planning documents, prior to the publication of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF).  This has now been replaced by the new Local Plan process.

At that time it was the Council’s intention to produce three planning documents:

- A Core Strategy setting out the spatial vision for the future of Broxbourne.  The Council prepared, submitted and had the Core Strategy examined by an independent inspector, who concluded that the strategy could be found sound, but only if a number of key policies were changed or deleted.  Members of the Council were deeply disappointed at this decision and decided in July 2012 not to adopt the Core Strategy and to instead prepare a new Local Plan that combines strategic policies and site allocations.

- A Site Allocations document allocating sites and areas of land for development.  The Council never got as far as producing this document and now intends to prepare a new Local Plan which contains strategic policies and site allocations in a single document.

- A Development Management Policies document setting out detailed policies to help determine planning applications.  The Council never got as far as producing this document and intends to prepare it as part of the new Local Plan process.
