Trends of the pilot scheme

The weight of refuse and recyclables collected has been recorded during the pilot and analysed. Alongside the pilot we have monitored Bury Green, where purple and clear sacks were not introduced, to measure the impact the pilots have had.

A graph to show the increase in recyclables collected per householdRecycling collected at the kerbside has increased in both the pilot areas as shown on the graph.

Bury Green has only seen its recyclables increase by one percent on average for the whole area.

Plastic bottles have contributed on average 10 per cent to the fortnightly figures of recyclable material.

Graph to show the change in refuse collected before and during the pilot

As the graph below shows, the two areas on the pilots have both seen reductions in refuse collected, which has consistently remained below the average before the start of the pilot. Bury Green has seen no dramatic change in the weight of refuse collected weekly.
