Junk Mail

Junk mail can be placed in your green box along with magazines and newspapers. Window envelopes cannot be recycled. The best way to dispose of junk mail is to stop receiving it. To do this register with the Mail Preference Service at this address:

Or you can log on and register online at the Mail Preference Service website. Placing a notice on your door stating you do not wish to receive free items of mail may also help.

Knitting

Local charities are likely to accept both unwanted wool and equipment.

Magazines

Offer readable ones to local hospitals, doctor and dental surgeries. Unreadable ones can be recycled in your kerbside box or local NRC .

 

Medicines

Return unwanted or expired medicines to a dispensing chemist.

 

Metals

Scrap metals and metallic items can be taken to the household waste site, where it is recycled via a network of scrap dealers into a wide range of products.

 

Milk bottles

These should be returned to your milkman.

 

Mobiles Phones

Support charities by donating your mobile phones either via charity shops or post. Mobiles phones can also be taken to the household waste site where they either re-used or recycled into their component parts.

Newspapers

Newspapers can be placed in your kerbside box for collection or taken to the NRCs.

Oil

Waste oil is contaminated with a whole range of chemicals and could pollute the water supply. It is illegal to pour waste engine oil down the drain.  Waste oil can be taken to the  HWRC where it is cleaned and recycled as lower grade engine oil.
