Recycling at home
Each year, the Council collects about 30,000 tonnes of household
refuse and litter. The cost of disposing of refuse, which
is met by residents, is increasing. There are a lot of
ways that residents can minimise the amount of waste generated
at home as shown below, and on the street.
In addition to recycling, you can compost a range of materi
als
vegetable peelings
wood clippings
tumble dryer lint
toilet and kitchen roll tubes
garden prunings
coffee grounds and filter
paper
and many more
Green kerbside box
Your green kerbside box is collected fortnightly on the same day
as your normal refuse collection.

Things to remember
- Please separate the materials within your box.
- If you have too much material to place in the box then
additional items can be placed in bags alongside the box. If you
feel that your box is not large enough to store all your recyclable
material, you can purchase an additional box at a cost price of
£2.80 from any of the Council's One Stop
Shops.
- Please leave your box in a clearly visible location at the
boundary of your property
- The box must be available for collection by 7am on your
collection day
- Please rinse or wash out your cans, ideally using your
remaining washing up water.
- If you see any broken glass please report it to the Council's Helpline
Clear sacks
Clear sacks have been introduced alongside the green kerbside
box to increase the amount of material you can recycle at the
kerbside. All household plastic bottles, including milk bottles,
shampoo bottles and household cleaners can be put in the sack.
Please squash your bottles and remove the lids.
