What you can do as a consumer
Be positive. Start with a few changes in what you buy (or don't
buy!). Don't
forget
that reducing and reusing are very important in waste
prevention:
- Avoid over-packaged products when shopping- buy loose fruit and
vegetables.
- Cut down on the amount of cardboard you bring home. Leave shoe
boxes at the store for example.
- You could buy the same product made from recycled
materials such as recycled writing paper and envelopes.
- Use proper cups, plates and cutlery rather than plastic or
paper disposable items which may get thrown away in your purple
sack.
- Use the suggestions from the related links to reduce the amount
of food wastage you produce.
- Choose longer-life, energy efficient and rechargeable products
so you do not have to throw these items out as often.
- Help spread the word - tell other people that you buy recycled
products in preference to others.
