Flats recycling
At present some flats find it difficult to
recycle their waste and it is a priority of the Council in 2011/12
to make it easier for these properties to recycle more.

After the successful provision of communal
recycling boxes in areas such as Silverbirch Court, Friends Avenue,
Gwendoline Court and Bryanstone Road in Waltham Cross, the
Council introduced a pilot collection of mixed recycling and
newspapers and magazines from 10 locations in the Cheshunt area in
2009.
In the years it has been in operation,
flats participating have recycled more than 10 tonnes per
annum which has contributed towards an overall borough-wide
recycling rate of 39.1 per cent in 2010/11. If these facilities
were provided to all flats in the Borough currently without a
recycling service it is estimated that 470 tonnes of additional
material would be recycled each year. It is hoped that
participation in the scheme will increase throughout 2012.
As a result of the pilot's success, the service was
expanded to a further 130 blocks of flats (approximately
1,300 flats) during July and August 2011. The facilities provide
residents with a secure area for recycling newspapers and
magazines, mixed glass and plastic bottles and cans.

materials are accepted in the recycling units.
If residents feel that their block of
flats may benefit from recycling facilities, they are
encouraged to express their interest in the new service by
e-mailing recycling@broxbourne.gov.uk
or by calling the helpline on 01992 785577.
Managing agents are also asked to put forward
suitable locations. Each block of flats put forward will be
assessed for available space and suitability.
In the meantime, residents of flats without a
recycling service are directed towards their
nearest NRC where they can recycle
paper, cans, glass, plastics, cardboard and textiles.
