Purple sack allocation

Each household in the Borough will receive the equivalent of one free sack per week. If you do not receive your allocation of refuse sacks by the end of May please contact the Council's Helpline.

Refuse collections will continue to take place on a weekly basis.

In the event of residents requiring more than the allocated sacks, the Council will retain the current arrangement for selling additional sacks. For more information residents can visit a Council One Stop Shop or telephone the Helpline.

The Council understands it may be difficult for some households to reduce their waste to one sack per week. In the following special cases, households will be able to apply for an additional allocation of sacks:

  • Families with six or more full time permanent residents.
  • Significant (anything over half a sack) non-clinical waste is produced as a result of a medical condition.
  • Residents with problems with mobility (including exemptions) who find it difficult to recycle sufficient material to reduce their refuse to one sack full or less.

If you would like your household to be considered as a special case please contact the 'Purple Helpline' on 01992 785520 or email purple@broxbourne.gov.uk

Collection point

Purple sacks being collectedRefuse sacks should be put out on the boundary of your property by 7am on your collection day, or after 7.30pm the night before collection if you have an early collection.   Please secure the sack to prevent refuse being windblown.

How to help our operatives:

  • Ensure that no broken glass, needles or other sharp objects are put in the refuse sacks unless adequately protected.
  • Take all measures possible to prevent refuse being wind blown as sweeping up will put additional costs onto residents.
  • Keep refuse sacks containing food scraps safe from the attention of cats, dogs and other marauding animals.
