Adopt a street

Lady and young boy particpating in the adopt a street schemeIf you have some free time or enjoy taking walks perhaps you would be interested in the Council's 'adopt-a-street' scheme. By joining this scheme you will be volunteering to carry out litter picking as and when you consider it necessary to keep your 'adopted' area clear of litter. You choose the area you want to 'adopt' and the Council will provide appropriate equipment such as litter pickers, plastic bags, and gloves to help to remove litter between scheduled street cleanses. This scheme can assist those residents already carrying out tasks such as clearing leaves/falling fruit outside their own properties to improve their environment.

This is a great activity for school children, scout and brownie groups too. It is particularly important to encourage our younger residents to participate in litter picking and ultimately to refrain from dropping litter and using one of the many bins provided throughout the Borough.  This is why the Council is keen to encourage local school involvement.

By volunteering you will make a difference and revive that all important community spirit.

Remember:

  • Volunteering will not impact on the scheduled cleansing already undertaken by the Council.
  • Guidelines will be issued to every participant and appropriate training/briefing sessions can be organised on request.
  • You can volunteer your group for one-off clean-up days.
  • Broxbourne belongs to us all and we all have a responsibility to keep our environment free from litter.
  • For more information on the adopt a street scheme telephone the Helpline or e-mail: recycling@broxbourne.gov.uk
