Environmental enforcement
As part of the Council’s programme of increased environmental
enforcement, a contract was set up in September 2010 with an
external security company, Xfor, to issue £75 Fixed Penalty Notices
to people dropping litter. Hot spot areas to be targeted include
Waltham Cross town centre, parks, major roads and areas around
takeaways. The Council has also installed 10 twin unit smartbins in
the pedestrian area of Waltham Cross town centre, strategically
placed next to the Pavilions Shopping Centre and seating
areas. The Council hopes that the conveniently positioned disposal
points will encourage shoppers to dispose of cigarettes and chewing
gum responsibly.
