Hospital shuttle service

The Broxbourne Health Shuttle

Shuttle busA hospital shuttle bus service to Chase Farm hospital in north London has been available for residents in the Borough of Broxbourne since April 2007.  The service was then extended to serve the QEII in Welwyn Garden City, the Lister Hospital in Stevenage, the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow and Barnet Hospital.  The service is funded by the Borough Council, Hertfordshire County Council and Hertfordshire Primary Care Trust.  The service is run by the Women's Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS), one of the UK's largest charities and volunteering organisations.  Through its voluntary work, WRVS aims to give older people the opportunity and choice to get more out of life.

The service picks up residents who have made a booking from their home and drops them off at the relevant hospital clinic.  To book, residents simply need to phone 01992 640322.  The service is available to all Borough residents, but in the event of over-booking priority will be given according to need.

The shuttle service vehicle can accommodate four passengers plus one wheel chair passenger, with a fold-down ramp at the back to allow easy access for the disabled.  The service is 'chargeable to the user, but at a lower rate than an individual taxi journey' with a service 'higher than a bus'.  A single journey to Chase Farm, Barnet and Hertford hospitals costs £5.30.  Single journeys to the QEII , Princess Alexandra and Lister hospitals cost £8.50, £6.40 and £12.50 respectively.

The Council has produced a leaflet which contains details on the Broxbourne Health Shuttle service.  The leaflet is also available at Council one stop shops and the hospitals involved.
