Health profiles

Health Profiles are assembled by
the Association of Public Health Observatories and provide a
snapshot of health for each area in England using key health
indicators. This enables comparison locally, regionally and over
time. They are designed to help local councils and the NHS decide
where to target resources and tackle health inequalities in their
local area.
The new 2011 Health Profiles for all local
authorities and counties in England have been released. There is a
separate profile for each local authority, providing a snapshot of
the current health status of the area, with tailored commentary,
maps and charts.
The 2011 profiles give up-to-date
information on important health issues such as childhood obesity,
skin cancer (malignant melanoma), deaths from smoking, hospital
stays due to alcohol misuse, and early deaths from cancer and heart
disease. A new indicator included this year shows the number of
hospital stays due to self-harm.
