Infectious diseases
Local GPs are required to notify us of a number of infectious
diseases, including Salmonella, E Coli, Campylobacter etc.
In addition information is available on special
treatment licensing.
We investigate the source of the infection, particularly if
it arises from:-
- a food premises within the Borough
- a work activity
- a leisure activity
Where we are notified of a case, we usually send out a
questionaire to the patient to gather more information, where
required we may visit the patient and gather that information in
person.
In a few cases formal action may arise out of a notification,
such as the service of a Notice or even prosecution. But in all
cases the details are sent to the Communicable Diseases Surveilance
Centre of Colindale where regional or national trends are
complied.
Further information is available on the Health Protection Agency
