Temporary accommodation
If you apply to the Council for help because you are homeless or
at risk of becoming homeless, the Council will try to prevent your
homelessness. This may include offering you a six-month stay
in a Council hostel to give you time to find somewhere new to
live.
Alternatively, if it is not possible to prevent you from
becoming homeless, you can apply to the Council for help with your
homelessness. For more information on the application
process, please visit the Homelessness page.
If the Council decides that you are homeless through no fault of
your own, and you meet all the criteria, this Council will accept a
full housing duty toward you. This means that the Council
will provide temporary accommodation.
Hostel and bed and breakfast accommodation
Temporary accommodation is likely to take the form of hostel
accommodation. This is normally a Council-run property where
a family have their own room, but share the kitchen and bathroom
with other residents.
If there is no hostel space available, the Council may have to
place you in bed and breakfast accommodation until a space in a
hostel becomes available. The Council cannot guarantee that
the bed and breakfast accommodation provided will be within the
Borough.
Support for people in temporary
accommodation
People living in temporary accommodation (and people who have
recently moved from temporary accommodation to permanent
accommodation) may be offered advice and support.
The kind of support you may be offered depends on what would be
most helpful to you. Support often includes making sure that
people are getting all the benefits they are entitled to, help with
managing money and helping people to find training or a job.
