A new project to help families and young people engage in fun, physical activity is now in the bag thanks to a grant from Tesco’s ‘Bags of Help’ funding scheme. The Summer Games Experience will use green spaces across the Borough to provide opportunities for people of all ages to take part in a range of physical activities. The activities will run in six-week blocks throughout the summer and will include Nerf Wars (a popular toy pistol with foam pellets), rounders, cricket, tennis, football, and running; all delivered by a qualified team of instructors and coaches.
Funding for the programme has come from money raised by the supermarket through the sale of 5p carrier bags. Called Bags of Help, Tesco awards grants to community projects that seek to enhance use of outdoor spaces, training coaches or volunteers and hosting community events. Thousands of shoppers across the south east of Hertfordshire have voted in stores for the projects to get funding and this project was awarded £1,000.
