Barclay Park Autumn 09

Broxbourne Council provides almost 290 hectares (716 acres) of open space in the Borough of Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, for the enjoyment of its residents and visitors. In addition to this, the Lee Valley Regional Park runs the length of the eastern boundary and provides further extensive facilities, both formal and informal, including an RSPB Reserve Broxbourne Woods (Herts County Council; The Woodland Trust) adjoins the western boundary and is the only National Nature Reserve in Hertfordshire. It is also designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The Council is constantly improving the quality and accessibility of its open spaces to encourage as many people as possible to get outside for relaxation, reflection, sport, recreation and education. In a busy and increasingly urbanised world the benefits of being outdoor for mental and physical well-being are more apparent and important than ever before. Green open spaces also help to stabilise urban temperatures and humidity, absorb pollutants in air and ground water and provide habitats and havens for wildlife.
