Public footpaths & Rights of Way
This page has been created to publicise the public
footpath/bridleway network in Broxbourne. It is hoped that it will
encourage residents to make use of the network and enjoy the
countryside in and around the Borough.
Broxbourne Council acts as agent to Hertfordshire County Council
for the maintenace of the network within the Borough. Details
of the paths are shown on the
Definitive Map which is held and maintained by the
Rights of Way Service at County Hall.
Maps are obtained based on reason of use: for recreational
purposes, please use Ordnance Survey produced maps. The information
on Definitive Maps is used by the Ordnance Survey to show public
rights of way on their maps, although they also show non-definitive
paths as well. A full range of maps is available from the
Ordnance Survey or from bookshops.
The Rights of Way network in the Borough

In Broxbourne, the rights of way network amounts to 124
footpaths, four bridleways and 11 Roads Used as Public Paths
(RUPPs), which collectively form a total distance of 43 miles.
Access to footpaths and bridleways varies, with those in the
urban areas and the Lee
Valley Regional Park being more accessible than ones in
the more rural parts of the Borough. The map above shows the
location of railway stations and nearest car parks to the rights of
way network.
The Borough's footpaths and bridleways offer the opportunity of
enjoying a wide range of landscape and habitat areas. There are
riverside and canalside walks along the Lee Valley, woodland walks
on the western fringe of the Borough; whilst between the built-up
area and the woods, several walks take you through areas of open
farmland and grassland.
