Adopt-a-Street Scheme

councillors and volunteers attend scheme dayAt the last meeting of the Environmental Services Committee the Chairman, Councillor Paul Mason, encouraged all the Councillors on the committee to join the Adopt-a-Street scheme and set an example for the rest of the community to follow.  The scheme helps make the Borough of Broxbourne a cleaner and more pleasant place to live in whilst also instilling a sense of community pride and spirit in local neighbourhoods.

Recently Broxbourne Council hosted a delegation of senior councillors from the Royal London Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, to find out more about the Adopt-a-Street scheme as the Royal London Borough plan to introduce a similar scheme in their area.

The highlight of the visit was joining a group of Adopt-a-street volunteers litter picking Lordship Road, in Cheshunt.  The visitors were able to test the equipment first hand and see for themselves how a little effort by the local community can make a big difference in keeping their street litter free and make the whole area a much cleaner and pleasant place to live in. A sense of community pride and spirit was clearly evident amongst the residents taking part in the litter pick.

Any residents wanting to find out more or interested in joining the Adopt-a-Street scheme should contact the Council Helpline on 01992 785577, email recycling@broxbourne.gov.uk or visit the Council’s environment and planning section.
