Controlled parking zone
Following the Four Swannes Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ)
consultation during March and April this year, the Council’s
Environmental Services Committee considered the results on 10 June
2008.
40 per cent of the Four Swannes residents
participated in the consultation. Of those, 59 per cent did
not agree with the introduction of the proposed CPZ; 34 per cent
did agree with the CPZ and the remaining 7 per cent were
undecided.
The main objection from residents to the CPZ
was the cost of parking permits, which were set at a level that
observed Government guidance to ensure the scheme would operate
without subsidy. The proposed charge was £50 per vehicle for a
year’s parking permit and £60 for a second permit.
It is Council policy to proceed with such a
scheme only if the majority of residents were in favour of the
proposals. In view of the consultation results, the Council
has decided not to proceed with a CPZ for the Four Swannes
area.
Residents have been notified of the Council’s
decision.
Construction of a new Council car park at nearby Waltham
Cross railway station began earlier this week with completion due
in late summer. The new facility will accommodate 46 vehicles
and will provide some relief to the commuter parking problems
experienced in the area.
