Council launches XFOR campaign
The Council has launched a widespread
publicity campaign to inform residents of the increased
environmental enforcement from September 2010 as part of the
Council’s partnership with XFOR.
Through the scheme the Council is trying to
encourage people not to drop litter and reduce the amount spent
cleaning the Borough’s streets; currently nearly £1 million each
year. The increased enforcement effort will mean more people will
receive a £75 fine for littering (including dropping cigarette
butts), fly posting, spraying graffiti or failing to clean up after
their dogs.
To raise awareness, a series of posters have
been designed informing residents of the increased enforcement and
potential fine. The location of the posters has been focused in hot
spot areas such as town centres, parks, major roads and areas
around take-away shops. The campaign is being supported by many
shops in town centres who are displaying posters in their windows.
Posters are also on display on Council vans and freighters,
providing mobile advertising across the Borough, while adverts have
been placed in local newspapers.
The publicity campaign will continue over the
coming weeks. In Waltham Cross, special bins for cigarette
butts and gum will be installed to encourage residents not to
litter these items. Community events will also be scheduled
with the aim of educating the public about litter and the increased
enforcement effort.

efforts to reduce litter in the Borough please visit the ‘environment and planning’ section of the
