Fine for organiser of illegal ‘rave’ in Wormley

The organiser of an illegal ‘rave’ was fined after almost 700 people descended upon a field close to Beaumont Road, Wormley, on 24 April 2010.

Ffransis Morgan organised the event which was advertised via Facebook with tickets being sold through an agent based in Camden, despite no consent being sought from Broxbourne Council.

Revellers started arriving at the site via buses provided by the organiser at around 8pm, with Police arriving at the site around 8.30pm. The event started at around 10pm and Police remained onsite and monitored the situation until the early hours. However, some complaints were later received by Broxbourne Council due to excessive noise generated by the event.

Following a joint investigation by the Police and the Council, Morgan was charged with organising an unlicensed event. He pleaded guilty at East Herts Magistrates’ Court and was ordered to pay a fine of £1,800 plus £650 costs and £15 victims’ surcharge.
