Evergreen programme 2008
A new booklet giving details of Evergreen events for over 50s
within Broxbourne has been published by the Council, covering the
period from October 2008 to March 2009.
New events have been introduced to the programme following a
survey on social activities for older people. The survey was
filled out by around 100 local people and the Council would like to
thank everyone who participated in the survey.
This year's events include a week of free 'Try Sport' sessions
running from 27 September to 1 October, at which anyone aged over
45 is welcome to try new sports including clay pigeon shooting,
scuba diving, indoor bowls, pilates, golf, aqua aerobics and
fishing.
There will also be a Celebration of International Older People's
Day on Wednesday 1 October at The Friary retirement housing scheme
in Waltham Cross, which will have a 'Music Hall to Disco' theme and
include a one-man theatre production and a buffet lunch.
Other events planned for the season include two coach trips, a
free walk around Cedars Park and the 'Ordinary yet Extraordinary'
photo exhibition featuring photos of local older people 'then and
now', taken by students from Turnford School.
The Evergreen programme is organised by Broxbourne Council in
partnership with Broxbourne Housing Association. The new
Evergreen booklet is available from the Borough offices, One Stop
Shops and leisure facilities. To receive a booklet in the
post, or for more information on any of the activities mentioned
above, residents can telephone the Council on 01992 785555
extension 5853.
