Local community safety budgets

Broxbourne Council has agreed to make available £100,000 in 2008/09 for local neighbourhood budgets.  The budget has been allocated across the six local neighbourhood fora on a proportionate basis, based on the level of population in the area and the level of crime and disorder incidents in 2007/08.  This is summarised in the table below:

These budgets will be used to fund projects in the local area and can be nominated by local residents, local councillors or other agencies.  The Council has set very wide parameters to the types of projects that could be considered, so provided there is evidence to show the proposal will potentially improve community safety in that area, it could include fencing projects, lighting improvements, diversionary activities for young people, or additional targeted actions by the Council or the Police to address an identified problem of anti-social behaviour.

Should the budget allocation in a particular neighbourhood be oversubscribed, the local forum will be asked to prioritise the nominated projects.  The next round of forum meetings will be held between September and November 2008.  All these meetings are open to the general public and further details are available in the Council’s community and living section.

Residents who would like to nominate a potential project for consideration can contact the Council’s community safety team on 01992 785555 or email community.safety@broxbourne.gov.uk
