New facilities at Holdbrook
Three new facilities on the Holdbrook estate in
Waltham Cross will be opened in May. The facilities are part
of a regeneration project funded by the Council and central
government to address local needs, including adult learning and a
community meeting space. The facilities will be opened by the
Mayor of Broxbourne, along with representatives of the partner
organisations which have been involved and local residents who will
benefit from the new facilities.
The new community room was lifted into place at the primary
school earlier this month. It will be officially opened by
the Mayor on Wednesday 21 May between 12noon and 3pm. It will
be used by local community groups and providers of adult learning
and the School are preparing to offer a service from mid-May.
A number of activities will be taking place on the day, including a
tour of the new building; activities including such a ‘Hoola Hoop
Fitness’ demonstration, face painting and balloon modelling and a
display about the regeneration project. There will also be an
opportunity to talk to the organisations which will be providing
services to local residents, and find out about the forthcoming
‘computer taster’ sessions.
The new kick-about area will be officially opened on Thursday 15
May between 5pm and 6pm. It is located next to the primary
school on the east side and has recently benefitted from
landscaping works around the perimeter and the installation of new
play equipment for small children. The opening will also
provide an opportunity to watch West Ham United FC football
coaching sessions for young people and children. The
Premiership football club ran a series of football training
sessions on the Estate earlier this year.
Improvement works to the shopping precinct on the Estate are
also now complete and the new precinct area will be officially
opened on Monday 19 May by the Mayor of Broxbourne. This will
take place between 5pm and 6pm at Wheatfield Café, 274-5 Holdbrook
Court.
A steering group will be set up for the community
building. It will be made up of users of the building and
representatives from the Borough Council. For information on
hiring one of the rooms in the new community building, residents
can contact the Council on 01992 785528 or e-mail aah.projects@broxbourne.gov.uk.
