Open Day 2008

Mayor on open dayBroxbourne Council’s Community Open Day, held on Saturday 5 July at the Borough Offices, attracted an attendance of around 1,800 visitors. 

 

Visitors enjoyed live music from local band ‘Loose Change’ and the winners of the audience vote in the recent ‘Pop Luck’ competition.  A variety of activities for youngsters included a bouncy castle and face painting.  Children also had an opportunity to have their photo taken with ‘Bob the Badger’.  Leisure promotions were running throughout the afternoon and there was a display giving details of the purple sack scheme.  The Olympic Delivery Authority were present offering information on the plans for the slalom course in Waltham Cross.

 

Residents had the opportunity to view the wide range of services provided by the Council, including recycling and services for older people.  They were also able to visit over 80 other local organisations exhibiting at Open Day.  The charities, special interest clubs, and volunteer groups which were present included Cheshunt Horticultural Society, Cheshunt Computer Club, and South East Herts beekeepers.  There was also a Fairtrade stall selling goods and offering residents information on Fairtrade issues and initiatives.  Refreshments were provided by the WRVS.  Hertfordshire Air Ambulance had a stall and raised £308 on the day.
