Purple and clear sack scheme
Households with a
Tuesday or Wednesday refuse collection were recently sent letters
detailing the purple and clear sack scheme, which is due to
start in their areas on 23 and 24 September 2008 respectively. The
letter includes guidance for householders and information on
materials that can be recycled in Broxbourne in order to help
residents reduce their household refuse. The next allocation of
purple sacks and clear sacks will be delivered with a further
letter in late August/early September.
Results so far for households which started on
the purple and clear sack scheme in May 2008 (all those with a
Thursday or Friday collection) are promising, with an average
reduction of 23 per cent in the amount of refuse collected.
The Council would like to thank those
residents who are recycling as much as they can and encourage other
residents to think about how they can reduce waste and recycle
more. The Council understands that it may be difficult for some
households to reduce their waste to one sack per week and as such,
applications for additional purple sacks will be considered from
households:
·
with large families of six or more full time permanent
residents
·
producing significant non-clinical waste for medical reasons
·
with problems with mobility
Residents who think that they might qualify
for extra purple sacks can contact the Council on 01992 785520 for
an application form, or visit any of the Council’s One Stop
Shops. Further information on recycling and the purple and
clear sacks scheme can be found in the environment and planning section
