Roselands Primary School learn about recycling
Young people in year 4 at Roselands Primary School,
Hoddesdon had an afternoon out of the classroom on Thursday 11 June
to learn about recycling. The pupils visited Broxbourne Services,
the Council’s in-house contractor who deliver key front line
services such as the collection of refuse and recycling in the
Borough.
The youngsters were given a tour around the
Council’s depot including the recycling bays, as well as being
shown how the baler worked in bundling plastic bottles together
into bales. They even had an opportunity to sit in a digger
and a refuse vehicle! The tour was followed by a presentation
on the three ‘R’s (reduce, reuse and recycle), the true costs of
rubbish collection and disposal, and which materials can be
recycled and, if so, where in the Borough.
The Council hopes that interactive and
exciting educational visits like these will help young people to
think more about the amount of waste that they produce as well as
encouraging young people to recycle more at home and at school.
Any schools in the Borough who would like to find out how to
recycle more of their waste or would like to visit the Council’s
depot to learn about recycling can call the Council on 01992 785555
extension 5614.
