Spring into recycling
Spring is a popular time
for householders to clear out their unwanted belongings. Broxbourne
Council is encouraging residents to give their unwanted items a new
start by reusing or recycling them.
There are three easy steps to follow:
Firstly, reduce.
When buying new appliances or items for the house, look to buy
products made from recycled materials where possible, and products
which have minimal packaging.
The next step, reuse
See if any friends or family members are looking for items you are
trying to get rid of. If the items are of high quality, for example
clothing and ornaments, look into taking them to a local charity
shop, selling them at a local car-boot sale or on an internet
auction website. To dispose of larger household items such as sofas
and white goods, look to sites such as http://www.freecycle.org/ and
www.frn.org.uk.
Finally, recycle
Take material to local neighbourhood recycling centres or household
waste recycling centres. There are 26 neighbourhood recycling
centres across the Borough, some of which can be used for paper,
cans, glass, plastic bottles, cardboard, textiles, books and shoes.
Please check the Council’s website for more information regarding
which centres accept which materials. There are two household
waste recycling centres, situated at Pindar Road Industrial Estate
and Brookfield Farm which accept a variety of material including
plastic food trays, wood, fridges, televisions and computers.
