St Mary's School green day
Broxbourne Council staff visited St Mary’s
High School in Cheshunt last Wednesday morning to lead discussion
groups with Year 7 (12 year olds) on a wide range of environmental
issues.
Topics discussed included anti-social
behaviour, littering, vandalism and recycling. Feedback and
participation by the youngsters was lively and enthusiastic.
The School already participates in the Council’s adopt-a-street
scheme and the opportunity was taken to reinforce the value of this
key initiative by taking all the Year 7 group of 80+ youngsters on
a mass litter-pick around local streets. Equipped with
litter-pickers, sacks and gloves the students made a valuable
contribution to improving the local street scene.
Chairman of the Council’s Environmental
Services Committee, Councillor Paul Mason, dropped into the School
following the litter-pick to congratulate the pupils and staff for
their hard work and the interest being taken to support the work of
the Council. He emphasised that everybody has a role to play
in ensuring Broxbourne has an environment to be proud of and he was
very encouraged by the commitment shown by St.Mary’s High
School.
