Waste management roadshow

Waste management roadshowBroxbourne Council held an information roadshow at the Sainsburys store in Hoddesdon on Friday 6 June. The roadshow allowed residents to ask questions on the waste management services provided by the Council and was part of the WRAP (Waste Resources Action Programme) ‘Recycle Week’, a national scheme to encourage recycling and reduce waste.

A shopping trolley was filled to demonstrate how many materials from a typical weekly shop could actually be recycled and composted, leading to less waste being put in purple sacks.

Approximately 200 residents visited the Council’s stand and asked questions.  Many more shoppers took the opportunity to take pens, pencils, rulers and pencil sharpeners, made from recycled materials away.  Information leaflets regarding what materials can be recycled at home and across the Borough, and what happens to materials when they are taken from the kerbside were also available to shoppers.  Sainsburys bags for life were given away for free which meant that residents could reduce the amount of plastic carrier bags they used for their shopping.
