World Cup Recycling

During the World Cup and the summer period,
many people will be enjoying the tournament, or having a barbeque
with a cold drink out of a plastic or glass bottle, or aluminium
can. The Council asks that these materials are recycled and
not thrown away. Plastic bottles can be recycled from the kerbside
in clear plastic sacks and glass bottles and cans can be recycled
in a kerbside box or recycled at a local Neighbourhood Recycling
Centre.
The World Cup and summer weather may increase
the volume of material recycled and residents can help by rinsing
and squashing their bottles and cans and by removing any unwanted
residues and unpleasant odours. This makes the collection
process cleaner for the collection operatives who have to hand sort
the materials.
Crushing a can reduces the space it takes up
by more than half, so squashing cans and plastic bottles leads to
more space in recycling boxes, clear sacks and bins at NRCs
creating space to recycle even more. It also allows for more
material to be placed in the collection vehicle, improving the
efficiency of collection and keeping costs down for residents.
