The percentage of council tax collected, in year, has increased to 98.0% in 2014/15, 0.1% higher than in 2013/14.
The percentage collected fell by 0.3% when the council tax support scheme was introduced in April 2013. The council tax support scheme requires all residents except pensioners and the vulnerable or disabled to pay a proportion of their council tax even if they are in receipt of other benefits. Previously, council tax benefit settled the council tax liability of those on other benefits; a scheme fully funded by the Government.
The percentage of business rates collected, in year, has increased from 98.8% in 2013/14 to 99.2% in 2014/15.
The figures above show the percentage of tax collected within the year of liability; collection continues beyond this point and the Council endeavours to collect all amounts billed.
